SAKURAJIMA, Japan — Sakurajima, an active volcano in Kagoshima Prefecture, remained under Alert Level 3, which restricts access near the volcano, after four eruptions were recorded at the Minamidake summit crater from the evening of July 12 through July 13. Volcanic plumes rose as high as 1,700 meters above the crater, while a volcanic glow was observed overnight. Authorities said further eruptions remain possible and warned residents and visitors to remain alert for large volcanic rocks and pyroclastic flows within about two kilometers of the Minamidake and Showa craters, as well as ashfall and smaller volcanic rocks in downwind areas.
鹿児島県の桜島では、7月12日夜から13日にかけて南岳山頂火口で4回の噴火が観測され、火山周辺への立ち入りが規制される噴火警戒レベル3が継続している。噴煙は火口から最大1,700メートルの高さまで上がり、夜間には火映も確認された。当局は今後も噴火が発生する可能性があるとして、南岳山頂火口と昭和火口からおおむね2キロの範囲では、大きな噴石や火砕流に警戒するよう呼びかけている。また、風下側では降灰や小さな噴石にも注意が必要である。
