The European Union stated that it would be impossible to maintain its current volume of trade with the United States if President Trump proceeds with his plan to impose 30% tariffs on EU goods starting in August. In response, the EU is considering retaliatory tariffs on American products, including aircraft, bourbon, and cars.
President Trump also announced a 30% tariff on Mexican imports. As an immediate measure, a 17% duty was imposed on Mexican tomatoes, hoping to protect American farmers. Roughly 70% of the tomatoes sold in the U.S. are imported from its southern neighbor.
