The U.S. Court of International Trade ruled that the economic-emergency law invoked by President Trump did not grant him the authority to impose tariffs on nearly all countries. The ruling, however, does not affect tariffs on specific goods, such as steel and automobiles, which fall under a different law. In response, the White House stated, “It is not for unelected judges to decide how to properly address a national emergency.” The administration plans to appeal the decision.
