U.S. Inflation Eases to 2.9%, Lowest Since March 2021

The U.S. annual inflation rate slowed to 2.9% in July, marking the first time it has fallen below 3% since March 2021. The core CPI, which excludes food and energy, rose by 0.2%, bringing the annual rate to 3.2%. Approximately 90% of the inflation was driven by a 0.4% increase in shelter costs. It is increasingly likely that the Federal Reserve will cut interest rates in September.
