G7 Nations Set Tentative Plan to End Coal Use in Power Plants by 2035

The energy ministers of the G7 countries have tentatively agreed to phase out coal-fired power plants between 2030 and 2035.

The final political agreement is expected to be reached on the 30th according to Italian Energy Minister Gilberto Pichetto Fratin.

On the same day, a final joint statement detailing the G7 commitments towards decarbonization will be published. Nuclear energy and biofuels are expected to be mentioned in the final joint statement as options for decarbonization of power generation and transportation, Fratin said.
