October Records 2.52 Million Visitors to Japan, Surpassing Pre-Pandemic Levels

Visitors to Japan recorded 2.52 million in October, exceeding the pre-pandemic level for the first time since the easing of border controls last year, according to the Japan National Tourism Organization.

The visitor number improved by approximately 100.8% compared to the pre-pandemic level in 2019.

Japan lifted border restrictions by reinstating visa-free travel for many countries in October 2022 and eliminating all remaining controls in May.

The weakening yen also made Japan a cost-effective destination, attracting more visitors, and the recovery of international flights has contributed to the increasing number of visitors.
